Do You Need a Coach?

You may understand that you want or need a coach but finding a good one may be more tough to sort out. Here is a recent article I wrote for Bridgespan, LeadersMatter. It is my attempt to demystify the whole thing.

PS. I received feedback that I neglected to cite well respected academies for training and certifying coaches. Yes, there are resources for this and if you are shopping for a coach you can inquire about credentials. That said, pretty much anyone can call themselves a coach these days because the field is unregulated and no one has to present a license or certificate of any kind. There are great coaches out there who acquired skills in conventional and unconventional ways. And there are lots of mediocre (or worse) coaches who may or may not be credentialed or properly experienced. So buyer beware.
